The latest Ingenuity breakfast event saw a good turn out for ever popular speaker Bob Berry, Boots Professor of Accounting and Finance from Nottingham University Business School. The focus of his finance based talk was “You don’t have to buy something to use it; asset based finance is an alternative to purchase!”
Bob advised the participants about methods of managing cash flow, stating that many SMEs are now finance shy, ‘permanent non-borrowers’ with an antipathy towards traditional providers. He went on to outline the other methods that can be used by businesses to finance growth and development, while stressing the need for good internal systems. He covered options such as full balance sheet lending, asset finance, renting and leasing and gave a balanced, comprehensive view that included potential problems to guard against as well as the positives to financing using these methods.
Presentations were followed by a lively question and answers session and more networking, with the event being very well received and generating excellent feedback.
“Really great presentation by Bob Berry – very clear and informative.”
“The topic is very relevant for me and my organisation as we look at growth in our business.”
