Antarctic Expedition – A Quest for Knowledge

School Energy Efficiency is supporting one of its partners in his greatest adventure yet!  James Veness has been chosen to take part in the 2014 International Antarctic Expedition with eminent polar explorer and environmental leader, Robert Swann, OBE. We are proud that James will be representing Nottinghamshire in this exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula, gaining firsthand knowledge of the continent’s fragile ecosystem, experiencing its unique wildlife and observing its magnificent landscape, all whilst learning about climate change and what we can do to protect the last great wilderness on Earth.

For James this will not be a 2-week holiday, but rather an agreement to commit for life. On this journey, Robert Swan’s “Leadership on the Edge” program includes leadership and survival skills with sustainability education. This unique experience will support each team member to adapt their lives when they return home, translating what they have learnt into positive actions.

This chance to join the polar expedition came at late notice so James has a matter of days to find the remaining funds to cover all the necessary costs. This is therefore a unique opportunity for your research project or business to take full advantage of a member of your community going to Antarctica in March 2014.

Does your organisation have equipment that may profit from being tested in this extreme environment? Do you have an energy related product that can benefit Robert’s 2041 EBase, the first education station built in Antarctica from sustainable products and run on renewable energy? You may want James to visit your organisation on his return to replay his exciting adventure and explain what has been learnt and what needs to be done. Or perhaps you just want to have the chance to associate your name with an adventure that we’d all like to be on. If you’d like to discuss this opportunity further, then contact us as soon as possible
since James must leave for the expedition on 7th March:
